ROANOKE VALLEY VOLUNTEER EMS ACADEMY
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification program, traditionally run by the Cave Spring Rescue Squad, is being run as an EMS Academy. Students will be eligible to test for their EMT upon successful completion of the EMS Academy. In addition to completing the initial course requirement for an EMT certification students will have the option to obtain other certifications necessary in EMS include Vehicle Extrication and Emergency Vehicle Operation Certification (EVOC). This course provides the basic knowledge and skills needed to deliver Basic Life Support (BLS) care and is required to progress to more advanced levels of prehospital patient care.

Priority is given to students in the following order:
1st: Cave Spring Rescue Squad Volunteers
2nd: Roanoke County Volunteers
3rd: Non-Affiliated Volunteers

A $50 application fee is required and applied to your tuition. This fee is refundable to applicants who are not accepted into the program. The course fee does not cover the cost of CPR certification.
*CSRS volunteers are eligible for full course reimbursement after completing one year of EMT service with the agency.
Scholarship and Payment Options
Scholarships are available to apply for through the Virginia Office of EMS that may cover up to the full tuition of the class. Deadline to apply for the scholarship to have the course completely funded by the start of the course is TBD.
