Cave Spring Volunteer Rescue Squad Auxiliary President Passes Away


Sharon Karlet Campbell, President of the Cave Spring Volunteer Rescue Squad Auxiliary passed away on Sunday, October 25th.

Sharon joined the Cave Spring Rescue Squad family in October of 1971. In addition to serving the community in the Auxiliary, she also provided emergency medical care as a Shock Trauma Technician member of the Cave Spring Rescue Squad in the late 1970’s and into the early 1980’s. In her 44 year membership, Sharon held offices of Chaplain, Secretary, Historian, Vice President, and served as the President of the CSRS Auxiliary for more than 20 years. She is well known for her organization of the biannual Chicken BBQ fundraiser.

Sharon was a leader in the CSRS Auxiliary along with providing leadership to the Southcentral District and state level Auxiliary to the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads (AVAVRS). She served in every office at all three levels and most recently completed a two-year term as the President of the AVAVRS.

Her dedication to the local crew was unwavering even through multiple recent illnesses.

Visitation with the family will be held Thursday, October 20th from 4-7 pm, Church of the Holy Spirit, 6011 Merriman Roan, Roanoke, VA 24018 and a celebration of her life will be held at the church on Friday, October 30th at 1 pm with processional to Sherwood Memorial Park, 1045 Lynchburg Turnpike, Salem, VA 24153 following. After the graveside service a reception in Sharon’s honor will be held at the Church of the Holy Spirit at 4 pm.
